Neverness to Everness (NTE) and Genshin Impact are both open-world action RPGs, but they differ significantly in design philosophy and gameplay experience.
Combat System
Genshin Impact features an elemental reaction-based combat system where players switch between 4 characters to trigger elemental combinations. This system has been refined over years and offers rich strategic depth.
NTE focuses more on action combos and the Esper ability system. Each character has unique Esper combat styles with faster-paced gameplay that emphasizes player skill. The game introduces parry mechanics and combo attacks for a more action-oriented feel.
Open World Exploration
Genshin Impact's Teyvat has expanded across multiple nations with massive maps and rich content. Exploration centers around puzzles, treasure chests, and world quests.
NTE's Hethereau is a modern urban open world, which is unique among similar games. Exploration includes city discovery, Anomaly Dungeons, and collectible systems. The modern city setting creates an entirely different exploration experience compared to traditional fantasy open worlds.
Gacha System
Both games use a free-to-play gacha model. Genshin has a well-established system with pity mechanics and weapon banners. NTE's gacha system is being refined during testing with similar pity guarantees expected.
Graphics
Genshin uses cel-shaded rendering with bright, colorful visuals and relatively modest hardware requirements. NTE leans toward realistic rendering with more detailed lighting and material effects, requiring higher-end hardware.
Platform Support
Genshin supports PC, mobile, and PlayStation with cross-platform saves. NTE primarily targets PC with potential expansion to other platforms.
Social Features
Genshin is primarily single-player with limited co-op. NTE is expected to offer more social features including team challenges and social interactions.
Who Should Play What
If you enjoy elemental reaction strategy, relaxed open-world exploration, and anime aesthetics, Genshin is the better choice. If you prefer action combat intensity, modern urban worldbuilding, and high-fidelity graphics, NTE is worth trying.
Both games have their strengths. As an NTE wiki, we believe NTE's modern urban theme and action combat offer unique advantages worth exploring. For more details on NTE's characters and builds, check our character guides and tier list.
Livestream Confirmed: Major Gacha System Differences
(The following has been confirmed via official livestream and represents the single biggest differentiator for NTE)
No 50/50 System (BIGGEST DIFFERENCE)
NTE has confirmed via its official livestream that there is NO 50/50 mechanic on the limited banner. When you pull an S-rank character on the limited banner, it is 100% guaranteed to be the featured character. This means NTE's limited banner pity requires at most 90 pulls to guarantee your desired character.
In contrast, Genshin Impact's limited character banner has a 50/50 mechanic: when you pull a 5-star for the first time, there is only a 50% chance it is the featured character. If you "lose" the 50/50 (get a standard banner character), you need up to 180 pulls total to guarantee the featured character through the hard pity system. This mechanic has been one of the biggest pain points for Genshin players, and NTE eliminates it entirely.
Beginner Banner Selector
NTE offers a beginner-exclusive banner where 20 pulls guarantees an S-rank character, and you can SELECT which S-rank you want from a specific pool. Genshin has no equivalent beginner selector mechanic.
Standard Banner Selector
At 50 pulls on NTE's standard banner, you receive an S-rank selector ticket that lets you choose any S-rank from the standard pool. Genshin's standard banner (Wanderlust Invocation) has no selector mechanic whatsoever — you get whatever the RNG gives you.
Free S-Rank from City Tycoon
NTE gives players a free S-rank character (Xiaozhi) through the City Tycoon game mode. Genshin only gives away free 4-star characters (such as Barbara, Xiangling, and similar units) and has never given away a free 5-star character.
~418 Free Pulls at Launch
NTE is giving approximately 418 free pulls at launch, far exceeding Genshin Impact's launch rewards. This is an extremely generous starting condition for free-to-play and low-spending players.
4 Gacha Pools
NTE has 4 distinct gacha pools: Limited Character Banner, Beginner Banner, Standard Banner, and Weapon Banner. Genshin has 3: Character Event Wish (limited), Standard Wish, and Weapon Wish. NTE's additional Beginner Banner provides new players with a much better on-ramp experience.
Bottom Line: When it comes to the gacha system, NTE is significantly more player-friendly than Genshin Impact in every measurable way. The absence of a 50/50 mechanic means every pull holds more value, the beginner and standard banner selectors dramatically lower the barrier to obtaining desired characters, and the ~418 free pulls at launch make NTE one of the most generous gacha games on the market for free-to-play and low-spending players.
Version 1.1 to 1.2 Update (June 2026)
NTE continued to evolve through versions 1.1 and 1.2:
- New characters including a limited healer, a Light main DPS, and the first limited male S-rank
- Expanded map coverage with new regions and amusement-park content
- New systems such as the Companion/Bond feature, boats, and the Porsche collaboration
- Ongoing mobile optimization, skip improvements, and visible rendering upgrades
- A gacha advantage that still favors NTE thanks to no 50/50 and an expected featured-character path around 53.5 pulls
So if your biggest deciding factor is banner efficiency and low-spend friendliness, NTE has a very real edge over Genshin right now.
