NTE Open World Exploration Guide: Hidden Chests, Puzzles & Efficient Routes

Exploration in NTE is no longer just about wandering around early-launch Hethereau. In the live 1.2 era, the practical question is: which routes unlock value fastest, which collectibles matter most, and how do you avoid wasting time before 999 Nights or current character progression?

Phase 1: Core Hethereau Waypoints

Unlock the city's key teleport points first. This lowers daily travel cost immediately and makes later cleanup much easier.

Phase 2: Clear Main-Route Value While Following Story

Do not chase 100% map completion too early. The efficient approach is to follow story progression and grab high-value exploration on the way.

Prioritize:

• waypoints
• obvious premium chests
• unlock-related collectibles
• materials near your current progression route

Phase 3: Warren Continent and 999 Nights Prep

By Version 1.2, Warren Continent matters much more. You do not need to full-clear it immediately. Just make sure:

• story routes are open
• core waypoints are unlocked
• patch-content zones are accessible
• reward routes are no longer awkward detours

Still the foundation of all efficient exploration.

2. High-Value Chests

Not every chest deserves the same time investment. Short detours and premium chests are worth it; low-value, high-friction pickups can wait.

3. Progression-Relevant Materials

Exploration becomes much more efficient when tied to your actual build goals.

4. Unlock-Type Content

Anything that gates entry, systems, or patch progression should come before low-value completionist cleanup.

Mark First, Return Later

A lot of wasted time comes from trying to finish everything immediately. If a point needs a long puzzle, better combat power, or a large detour, mark it and come back later.

Pair Exploration with Daily Tasks

The most efficient routine is not a separate “exploration hour,” but doing:

• current daily or story objective
• nearby chest and collectible cleanup
• a quick final pass through the closest missing route

• premium chest unlocks

• long multi-layer routes
• low-value puzzles with heavy time cost
